ACRF Wills Days 2023

If you’ve had ‘create a Will’ on your checklist for a while now, and are looking for an efficient and affordable way to create one that reflects your wishes – book in to attend one of ACRF’s annual Wills Days.

ACRF is hosting community Wills Days throughout March (NSW) and September (SA). For just $75 for an individual or $100 for a couple, a legal professional will provide a one-on-one consultation to draft a simple Will.

A simple Will is an uncomplicated document that outlines your wishes upon passing away. It details your funeral wishes, appoints an executor, and names the beneficiaries of your assets. A complex Will, on the other hand, is a Will that addresses the various issues that arise when there are: companies, self-managed super funds, overseas assets, blended families, trusts, foundations, and significant assets involved. A simple Will is suitable for an individual who has a small family and a few assets.

A simple Will is not suitable for an individual who:

  • Has owned or been the beneficiary of a trust in their lifetime.
  • Wishes to exclude or favour a child in the division of their assets.
  • Owns multiple homes, investment properties or significant assets.

All fees will go toward pioneering research that seeks to progress and transform the way we prevent, detect and treat all cancers.

Why should you create a Will?

While it can be daunting to think about, creating a Will is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your loved ones. If you do not have a Will when you pass, the Australian government has federal laws in place that will influence what happens to your assets and your estate. By creating a Will you are helping to protect not only yourself but your loved ones.

A Will ensures your loved ones are taken care of emotionally after you pass

A Will gives your family peace of mind knowing that your assets and estate will be directed as per your wishes. Creating a Will means your family won’t have to make a decision as to how your estate should be used or divided when you pass, helping to alleviate any future emotional stress.

A Will allows you to designate who will inherit your property and assets

If you are single, a Will takes out the guesswork of who inherits your assets and estate. If you are married or in a de-facto relationship, a Will cements that your spouse or significant other inherits your assets. Alternatively, you may want to donate your assets elsewhere and your Will is a foolproof way to ensure this happens.

A Will guarantees that your wishes are carried out after you pass

For some people, there may be a significant place close to their heart that they would prefer to be laid to rest, or they would like to donate or leave a gift to their favourite charity. Leaving a gift to ACRF in your Will is a wonderful way to leave a legacy to cancer research but without a legal Will, your wish may not occur.  ACRF’s Wills Days are an opportunity to manage your estate and assets and secure your future wishes.
