Get Involved

There are many ways to support the work of ACRF and together, with everyone’s input, we will achieve our goal to reach a world without cancer. For some, supporting a great cause is all about hosting events or taking on challenging feats – but for others, a donation works best.

Why is it important to fundraise for cancer research?

Despite improvements in patient outcomes, cancer continues to have a significant and often devastating impact.

According to cancer statistics, most of us will be impacted by cancer at some stage in our lives, either personally or through family and friends.

Reducing this impact is not an easy task. There are over 200 known types of cancer that develop because of a person’s own DNA going wrong and each cancer cell is a little different – healthy cells replicate themselves exactly while each division of a cancer cell brings about new changes.

While there have been some major advancements in cancer research, cancer remains a complex question, with no easy answers.

Thankfully, cancer researchers are committed, creative, patient and resilient because cancer research takes time and the technology, equipment and infrastructure needed to conduct cancer research can be very expensive.

A single discovery can take many years, even decades, and cost millions, but each one brings us closer to a world without cancer. Single discoveries, enabled by ACRF awarded grants have led to the development of the cervical cancer vaccine and Venetoclax – a pill that melts some forms of leukaemia and more.

Choosing to fundraise for ACRF will empower the best cancer researchers to fast-track discoveries with the power to help each individual diagnosed with this complex and disruptive disease.
