The ACRF Wing on Cancer
ACRF has funded the establishment of a research wing for cancer research at the Austin Research Institute. The new wing includes a human cancer research laboratory, a cancer immunotherapy laboratory and an antibody engineering laboratory.
With the assistance of the ACRF grant, researchers at the Institute will work on novel diagnostic tests to aid in the early treatment of colon cancer and in the development of a vaccine for breast cancer.
The Austin Research Institute has patented research advances such as blood tests for the monitoring of breast and ovarian cancer and also pioneered research into ways of overcoming the debilitating effects of chemotherapy.
Achievements
- successful completion of human clinical trials investigating novel methods of stimulating the immune system.
- Development of new antibody-based drugs for the treatment of prostate, ovarian, breast and colon cancers, as well as leukaemia.
- Exploring novel ways to stimulate immunity specifically for the treatment and prevention of cancer.
