ACRF supporters Run For A Reason and raise over $70,000!

From the serious runners to The Incredible Hulk, thousands of runners hit the pavement to take part in the fifth annual HBF Run For A Reason in Perth on Sunday.

A record number of people took part with nearly 30,000 runners – some in costume, others decked out in t-shirts displaying the faces or names of loved ones they were running for – taking on the 4km and 12km courses.

The ACRF was lucky enough to have 104 runners support cancer research in Australia, with team ACRF raising over $70,000! We would like to send a big thank you to all of our fundraisers for all their hard work and fundraising efforts!

We’d especially like to thank Mel Koch and the Crank Health and Fitness team who, to date, have raised over $46,000 for world class cancer research.

An amazing effort, Mel individually raised over $30,000 herself, in memory of her sister, Sophie, who passed away only 5 weeks ago.

Sophie had been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma last year and what began as a run by Mel to promote fitness and raise money towards researching a cure for rare cancers became a run in memory of her inspirational sister.

Mel said, “She never complained about anything and all her friends thought that was really inspirational. I’m extremely proud of her.”

Mel was joined by her parents Elizabeth and Keith Smith and close family in honouring Sophie as they crossed the finish line.

Team Crank have taken first place as the highest team fundraisers for the day and Mel took first place as highest individual fundraiser. To Mel, her family, and Team Crank, well done on such a legendary effort.

And to all of our Run For A Reason runners, thank you all so much for your most generous donations, your hard work and dedication. We can’t thank you all enough and we are so humbled and honoured to have been chosen as your charity of choice.
