Hobart Cancerians cruise to Peppermint Bay

Welcome to Hobart Cancerians new President, Mrs Gillian Groom, who with Jeanne Taranto, was a founding member of this loyal group supporting ACRF. As we go to press, Professor Ian Frazer is the Committee’s guest of honour at a magnificent gourmet dinner cruise to Peppermint Bay.

A touch of glitter

The busy A Touch of GlitterHobart Cancerians, who had a record fundraising year for ACRF in 2006, held a glittering cocktail party at Hobart Town Hall as a pre-Christmas fundraiser, celebrating the selection of Hobart’s Menzies Research Institute as a finalist in the 2006 ACRF research grant awards. (The award of $1.1 million which will fund the ACRF Tasmanian Inherited Cancer Centre, has since been confirmed). Special thanks to Hobart Cancerians President, Pamela Archer, Jeanne Taranto, Gillian Groom and Rosina Craft for a great fundraising year.

Drinks at Parliament House

Just a week after hosting Professor Frazer, the busy Hobart Cancerians Committee held “Drinks at Parliament House” to assist them in their continued support of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation. Big thanks go to the committee for their amazing support.

Fantastic prizes were up for grabs including premium tickets to the award-winning Broadway musical “The Lion King” at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne, including return airfares, and accommodation.

Cocktail Party honouring Professor Frazer

200Ian Frazer6 Australian of the Year Professor Ian Frazer was guest of honour at a special Hobart function recently to raise funds for cancer research. Professor Frazer was joined by Hobart Lord Mayor, Rob Valentine and a host of long time supporters of the Hobart Cancerians Committee, including Jeanne Taranto, President Pamela Archer and Gillian and Ray Groom.

Professor Frazer provided special insights into his 20 year cervical cancer research project and after the event, former Tasmanian Premier Ray Groom and his wife Gillian hosted a small, private dinner for Professor Frazer and his wife, Caroline.

Fundraising train trip

Train TripThe Hobart Cancerians Committee organised a fundraising train trip. Members and guests enjoyed a picnic lunch aboard the vintage train while being treated to spectacular scenery as they journeyed up the Derwent Valley on route to a national park two hours north-west of Hobart.
