This Foundation is dedicated to awarding grants of significant magnitude, stimulating Australia's best scientists to embark on groundbreaking research projects to treat and prevent cancer - scientists like Prof. Ian Frazer and his brilliant research team who received a $1 million grant from ACRF to support their discovery of the cervical cancer vaccine.
ACRF's most recent grant awards
A record number of applications for cancer research project funding between $1.5 million and $10 million was received in 2007 with a total of $10.9 million awarded to three outstanding projects.
Projects funded by ACRF... Our research grants are capital grants for infrastructure, equipment and the establishment of national facilities and enterprises supporting all aspects of cancer research, including but not limited to cell and molecular biology, epidemiology, prevention and drug development.
The ACRF is a ‘seed’ funding body and is therefore interested in applications for research projects whose value is over and above the amount sought directly from ACRF. We are looking for opportunities to leverage ACRF grants and at multi-disciplinary teams, collaborations and evidence of the translational impacts at a clinical level (with patients) which will be given favourable consideration.
2008 Grants round now closed.
Grant applications have been received for 2008 from leading Australian research scientists for funding of between $1.5m and $10.0m.

Grant Assessment...All applications are considered and asssessed by the Foundation's Medical Research Advisory Committee (MRAC), a group of highly distinguished research scientists who are appointed by ACRF's Board of Trustees. The procedures of the MRAC follow the stringent guidelines set out by the National Health & Medical Research Council and include the assessment of applications by referees and independent expert assessors, as well as site visits and interviews of selected short-listed applicants. The MRAC's recommendations for funding are approved by the Foundation's Board of Trustees.
