Record funds raised for cancer research in honour of Coogee Beach Golf Club mates
The Coogee Beach Golf Club has a history dating back more than 50 years with some members having joined the Club over 25 years ago. In just the last few years, several members of the Golf Club including Mark O’Connor, the club President (for over 20 years), Fritz Krall (club handicapper for over 20 years), Arthur Mears and Dave Griffith have sadly died of cancer - so the rest of the golf group banded together to create a special memorial Golf Day with all funds raised going to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation who provide millions of dollars each year to defeat this devastating disease.
Garry Ennis, John Perkins, Steve Rose, Chris White, the Captain of the Club, the rest of the committee and their friends worked tirelessly to raise a record $13,777.50 for ACRF and breakthrough cancer research. This was their second event in honour of their mates and it was a perfect day of golf featuring novelty on-course events, raffles, sunshine, a lot of laughs and a few beers. The big day finished with a sumptuous lunch and auction proudly sponsored by the Palace Hotel. Chris White, the club’s fearless auctioneer, drove the fundraising fun and the day finished up almost trebling last year’s effort.
Coogee Beach Golf Club and the ACRF are grateful for the wonderful support from major sponsors of the golf day, the Palace Hotel, Coogee Beach and Ryan Singer, Matt Jones from Golf Mart Artarmon, Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach, Coogee Sands Hotel & Apartments, the Boards of Directors of the N.S.W. Golf Club, Bonnie Doone Golf Club and the Coast Golf Club and from Garry & Tim at the Coast’s Pro Shop. All the auction items were donated by the Golf Club’s members, friends and family members.
This year the Club is on course with plans to up the ante, holding their greatest golf day, lunch and auction yet. So if you fancy a day of sun, golf and heart, put November 14th in your calendar, contact us on 9223 7833 and come along and join the boys on the day!
About the ACRF
