Prof Brent A ReynoldsProfessor Brent A Reynolds, PhD

Senior Research Fellow Queensland Brain Institute

Since joining QBI in mid-2005, Professor Brent Reynolds has continued his pioneering research into neural stem cells.

Professor Reynolds and his team specialise in developing adult neural stem cell assays which can provide an accurate and meaningful read-out of stem and progenitor cell number. These assays are valuable tools for understanding and elucidating the genetic and epigenetic regulation of stem- and progenitor cells in the developing and mature central nervous system. The assays are also being used in drug screening to identify compounds that increase neurogenesis in the brain.

Professor Reynolds is also using his understanding of neural stem cells to unravel the mystery of stem-like cancer cells, and developing protocols for the production of neurons from adult neural stem cells and transplantation into the diseased brain.
