Bio – Dr Karen J Edwards

Manager – Biomolecular Resource Facility

Karen Edwards has undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Applied Chemistry from the University of Natal (Pietermaritzburg) and the University of Cape Town. After spending time working at a Minerals Research Institute in Johannesburg she returned to Pietermaritzburg and worked on research on Metal Cluster Chemistry and small molecular x-ray crystallography.

This was followed by a move to the UK and PhD in Crystallography from the University of London whilst based at the Institute for Cancer Research and funded by the Cancer Research Campaign. She then undertook post-doctoral research at the Research School of Chemistry at the ANU in protein crystallography where she gained further skills in molecular biology and protein chemistry.

This was followed by further post-doctoral research at James Cook University in Cairns in Plant Systematics. During this time she obtained a Masters in Environmental Management.

She has been managing the Biomolecular Research Facility since August 2001 was a recent recipient of an ANU Staff scholarship to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Management at the National Graduate School of Management at ANU.
